Whats with the Assaro head eyes?

I have found my tightest portraits are the ones I had the most trouble getting a likeness. Also using a comparator is good for establishing a likeness but can end up kinda jizzless. I love my comparator but there is a time to step away from the comparator

I’ve been using Cobra WMO. You can use water to thin the paint instead of mineral spirits according to the manufacturer (Royal Talens) in the Netherlands and in their videos . I started with Winsor & Newton but found they were student grade and had too little pigment and so switched to Cobra which has the same amount of pigment as their Rembrandt line. It is a nice buttery, creamy consistency.

Do you know of/suggest any apps that can do crystalized blur or pixelation of images, as you are kind of manually doing here? (I don't have Photoshop) Thanks!

There are some great apps that give head planes too and u can control lighting

I think that picture is a bit confusing. Because there are 2 light sources. One straight on from the right, and another backlit on the left.

I just discovered your videos today, I must say that you are of great help in identifying the different tones of the skin. I watched 3 of them already and am very pleased with the portrait with the left blue skin reflection that points out details I wouldn’t probably have noticed. You are an excellent teacher, I am french speaking and compared to others, I didn’t have to back up to hear again or slow down the video because you speak so well. For all this I thank you soo much.

The trees in the mid distance, on the right are sometimes the hardest to find the tone for and get many to struggle with. But you made them appropriate enough so they sit back quietly. It's a good tutorial and we look forward to see more. Thanks !

Hi Cris. I follow you from a while and I watch your videos everyday, sometimes I re-watch them from time to time. This video in particular touched me in so many points, like business skills for example. I'm 52 now, and have a love/hate relationship with the art. I love painting, but hate that I can't live from it. Every time I'm painting there's a inner voice in my mind telling me I should do something profitable with my time, that this is an unachievable dream, but I'm addicted to painting. Even though I think it's too much work too little time. This took my whole life. I draw and paint since I'm 12yo (oil I started later in 2018, but had some tries at 13-14yo... By that time I didn't know about odorless solvents, I always were a self-taught artist, and I thought very hard to sustain that odor). I'm really looking forward your business course you will launch in July! Right now, I want to work as an artist, like a side hustle to turn my daily routine of my full time job more bearable. Bye! :)

I'm basically an acrylic painter but i can see advantages to oil paint but I've never gone to it basically because of the drying time of finished paintings when i did try it out. However, I keep getting drawn to the idea of picking it up for certain paintings i have in mind. I'm envisioning using thinners and oils as you advise but I also see a role in reserving them for the brush rather than mixing in to help application to canvas . Do you have any thoughts?

Hi Chris,Is it ok to enroll your foundations of oil paint class with water mixable oil? Altho i want to try traditional oil paints,i have limited space and set backs.Thats why.
